Year 6 Transition

Welcome to our Year 6 Transition page, where you can access resources and information about the transition from primary to secondary school. We recognise that the move from primary school to secondary school is a big one – often for parents and carers as much as for the students! Our extensive transition programme allows us to make the process a positive and exciting experience for our students.

Each year at Laureate Academy, we have worked to tailor and refine our transition programme to ensure a supportive transition for every child that joins us. Students who are offered a place at Laureate Academy will be invited to attend transition events during the summer term. These days give pupils the opportunity to explore our outstanding curriculum, get to know our highly skilled teaching staff, and build confidence before starting in September. At the beginning of the autumn term, Year 7 students take part in dedicated induction days, including tailored lessons and assemblies designed to help them understand how to succeed at Laureate Academy. Through strong partnerships with primary schools locally and further afield, we are able to support a smooth and well-planned transition, enabling new Year 7 students to settle quickly and feel comfortable in their new environment.

We are delighted to welcome you to Laureate Academy. This is an exciting time to join us at Laureate and I am proud to invite you to become part of our community. Our academy strives to deliver an outstanding school experience for every child and to have the highest expectations of all of our students.

We believe that by working hard, every child can succeed in fulfilling their academic potential and becoming the best version of themselves. To do this, we set high expectations and sweat the small stuff. The culture of success has been recognised in our ‘Good’ Ofsted in June 2023 and our excellent GCSE results in August 2024.

We want to ensure success for every student at Laureate Academy and hope you will join us on our journey.

I’m excited to meet you all. I’m working with your new teachers to help you settle into your new lessons.

My job is to make sure that your lessons are fun, challenging and rewarding. I want you to learn lots at Laureate and I can’t wait to see you enjoying our brand-new building. You will all have the chance to study science in our new labs, perform in our drama studio, and play sport on our massive astro pitch. I value students who are polite, good-natured and hardworking. We’ll get on if you try your best every day, in every lesson.

Ms Louise Coyle

SENDCo

Hello, my name is Mrs Coyle and I am the SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator). My job is to make sure that students who need extra support with their learning, wellbeing, or school life get the help they need to feel confident and succeed.

I work closely with teachers, families, and other adults in school, and my team and I are always happy to listen — so if you ever need support, you’re not on your own.

Ms Kristie Donovan

Transition Lead

My name is Kristie Donovan and I am Head of PE here at Laureate Academy, I am also in charge of transition from Year 6 into 7. My role as transition lead is to make your move from Year 6 to 7 as smooth as possible.

I will work alongside your primary school teachers to ensure you have a positive start to your journey here at Laureate Academy. I will be answering any questions you have and be a friendly face to welcome you when you have your first day!

We are delighted to share that all Year 7 students starting in September 2026 will be receiving a Free Uniform Bundle consisting of an academy blazer, bag, tie and polo shirt.
